Bulk Cable

  • What is the bulk wire?

Bulk cable means that it is considered a large quantity of cable as opposed to only a few feet. For example, a 1,000-foot roll of wire is considered bulk. A 10-foot piece is not. Also, the bulk wire will not have any terminations on it. Just wire.

  • What is bulk Ethernet cable?

An Ethernet cable is a cable used to connect wired networks, bulk Ethernet cable (up to 1000 feet runs are available) is used to set up a network, so as to connect multiple computers (possibly in different rooms) and other devices to the server usually in offices and other businesses.

  • Should I get Bulk Cat5 or 7 Ethernet cables?

The choice between Bulk Cat5 and Cat7 Ethernet cables depends on your specific networking needs and budget. Cat5 cables are older and more affordable, suitable for basic networking, while Cat7 cables offer higher performance and better shielding against interference, but they are typically more expensive. If you need higher performance and future-proofing, Cat7 cables may be beneficial, but if budget is a concern, Cat5 cables may suffice.

  • Does a thicker Bulk Ethernet cable make a difference?

Yes, the thickness of a bulk Ethernet cable can make a difference in terms of performance and durability. Thicker Ethernet cables, typically referred to as higher gauge or lower AWG (American Wire Gauge) cables, generally have lower resistance and can carry signals over longer distances without degradation. They may also provide better protection against interference and physical damage compared to thinner cables. Additionally, thicker cables may be more suitable for high-speed networking applications, such as Gigabit Ethernet or higher, where signal integrity is critical. However, for most home and office networking needs, standard Ethernet cables of the appropriate category (e.g., Cat 5e, Cat 6) should suffice, and the difference in thickness may not be significant.

  • Does a longer Bulk Ethernet cable mean less speed?

And yes, an Ethernet cable that's longer than that will start experiencing an increased latency, although almost unnoticeable at the beginning, but it can get really bad as the length increases.
